Press release: Horrible birthday present for the Dalai Lama: Chinese police opens fire on celebrating Tibetans

“On Saturday, Chinese police forces opened fire on a group of Tibetan monks who had gathered to peacefully celebrate the Dalai Lama’s birthday. According to the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT), several monks were seriously injured.

The Tibet Intergroup of the European Parliament strongly condemns this act of violence. President Thomas Mann said: “The actions of the police are by no means acceptable. I call upon Lady Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to react on this matter. We demand full clarification of the incident. Those responsible for this undue act of police brutality, have to be held liable.”
